Wakefield parlor guitar
Cedar soundboard, kiaat sides and back, mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard and bridge, shagreen leather pickguard, French polish finish, mother of pearl and silver inlays. 24.5" scale. Still-life pictures by Kia Elena Davis.
This was my first application of fish skin as a plastic replacement 5 years ago. Unlike plastic pickguards, fish leather moves with the wood over the seasons from the flexibility between its scales, preventing any stress on the soundboard, without adding any extra weight from its plastic contrepart. It always felt wrong to glue plastic on top of precious woods. I have not used plastic since, and won't go back.
